MobiMatter is a comparison-and-checkout layer. It aggregates plans from more than 30 providers and lets the market compete on price inside its own storefront. How the marketplace model affects support and refunds

This is the sharpest difference between the two services, and it is written into the small print.

Holafly runs a single refund policy. You can claim a full refund within 6 months of purchase if the eSIM has not been activated or used, whether because your plans changed or your device turned out to be incompatible before scanning the QR code. If a connection failure is caused by Holafly or the destination network, a full or partial refund is available, minus a $3.50 administrative fee in some cases, with money returned within 5 to 10 business days. MobiMatter's policy is tighter and partly outsourced. Its published terms allow a full or partial refund only when the service fails "due to genuine product malfunction" and support cannot fix it within 24 hours of you reporting it through the troubleshooting tool. Activated digital products are otherwise not eligible for cancellation or return, and the terms state that specific scenarios are governed by "the policies of the operator whose product has been sold", with MobiMatter mediating but not guaranteeing any refund. Processing can take 10 to 45 days.

Unlimited data: fair use vs speed caps

Both services sell "unlimited" plans, and neither means unrestricted high-speed data. The mechanics differ.

Holafly applies carrier fair-use policies. Its FAQ confirms that "some operators may reduce speeds after reaching a high-speed limit", with normal speeds returning the next day. Hotspot, top-ups, calls and coverage

Hotspot. Holafly now allows tethering on its standard country and regional plans, capped at 1 GB of shared data per day, an improvement on the 500 MB limit reviewers reported in earlier years. That covers maps and email on a companion's phone, not a day of laptop work. On MobiMatter, hotspot rules are set per plan by each provider: many plans, including the eSIMGo unlimited series, enable it without a separate cap beyond the plan's own limits, while others block it. Top-ups. Holafly's single-trip plans have no data top-ups because data is unlimited; you can extend the duration before expiry in most countries, though extensions are blocked in a few markets, such as Turkey, for regulatory reasons. MobiMatter supports top-ups on selected plans only, without reinstalling the eSIM, and availability depends on the provider.

Calls and SMS. Holafly's travel eSIMs are strictly data-only. Its Holafly Plans subscription changes that: the Unlimited tier includes a US, UK or Canada phone number. Holafly counters with named tier-one partners, such as AT&T and T-Mobile in the USA and KDDI/SoftBank in Japan, so you know which network you are getting. Holafly has moved fastest. In December 2025 it launched Holafly Plans, a monthly global subscription (Light 25 GB and Unlimited tiers, the latter around $59.95-64.90 per month at current pricing) covering 160+ destinations, with the Unlimited tier adding a phone number, a first for a major travel eSIM brand. Every plan now also includes "Always On", a free 1 GB of backup data that renews every 30 days, and the hotspot allowance on standard plans has doubled to 1 GB per day. Its pricing structure has also shifted from per-day purchases to fixed duration tiers starting at 3 days.

MobiMatter has changed less: reviews updated through June 2026 describe the same marketplace model, now spanning roughly 25-30 active providers and over 1,000 listed plans, with steady app improvements (iOS version 10.30.0 shipped on 30 June 2026) and an expanded cashback and referral scheme.
